The outbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway (I-94) were closed for nearly three hours at 137th Street due to a semi-truck that crashed into the median, causing damage to the saddle tank. A second vehicle was also involved in the incident. The crash occurred on the incline leading up to the Steel Bridge, which caused diesel fuel to flow downhill toward the shoulder. Fire crews quickly responded to the scene, with Engine 80 and Truck 62 arriving first and deploying a line to contain the spill. Engine 75 took position on the off-ramp to Beaubien Woods and set up a second line to help manage the situation.
The accident happened around 4:55 PM, and emergency crews remained on site until 7:45 PM, when the State Police finally reopened the expressway. The spill was a serious hazard, and crews worked carefully to prevent further environmental damage and ensure the safety of drivers. Local residents and commuters reported heavy traffic delays during the closure, as the highway is a major route through the area.
