Historic fire in Waukegan, 3-18-75

This message comes from Brian Murphy:

Here’s a story from the March 18, 1975 edition of the Waukegan News-Sun. It details multiple fires that broke out in an apartment complex located just across the street from the old downtown central Waukegan Fire Station. The cause was a failure in the building’s gas distribution system, which led to several fires starting at once throughout the structure. The Waukegan Fire Department responded with their Hi-Ranger Snorkel and a vintage Seagrave aerial ladder truck from the mid-1950s—a 85-foot, three-section ladder. The photos were captured by News-Sun photographer Don Martin. I can only imagine the firefighters who showed up are all retired by now! It's fascinating to see how things were handled back then. Enjoy the historical look back!
