MVA with fire in Prospect Heights, 5-1-21

At 05:07 on Saturday, May 1, Prospect Heights Fire Department Chief Drew Smith released an update regarding a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on eastbound Palatine Road near Wolf. The incident involved a minivan on fire, along with at least two other vehicles. Units from Prospect Heights and Wheeling were quickly dispatched to the scene, which was located just east of the Canadian National railroad bridge. Upon arrival, first responders found the situation to be critical, requiring vehicle extrication. Despite the severity of the crash and significant damage to the vehicles, no one was hospitalized. A Superior ambulance was also present at the scene, as it could not pass through due to the traffic congestion caused by the accident. According to reports, emergency personnel had already begun triage before the fire companies arrived on the scene. The incident highlights the quick response and coordination between local fire departments and emergency services. While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, the prompt actions of the first responders helped prevent further complications.
