Cummins Releases 2006 Sustainability Report

Cummins has officially released the fourth edition of the company's annual sustainable development report. This 88-page report focuses on Cummins’ efforts in environmental protection and corporate social responsibility.

Tim Solso, Cummins Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said: “Cummins has achieved record-breaking performance for three consecutive years. More importantly, we have always adhered to Cummins’ core values: We abide by the Code of Business Conduct and take an active role in corporate social responsibility. Cummins is proud of its integrity, innovation, excellence, return to the community, diversification, and global participation in the corporate value system and business philosophy.

The sustainability report described Cummins' achievements in environmental protection and corporate social responsibility, including:

Join the US Federal Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Protection Leadership Program, and commit to reduce Cummins' greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2010. Under this plan, Cummins will monitor and monitor the greenhouse gas emissions of the plants and facilities it manages globally to ensure that the company's total greenhouse gas emissions meet the standards.

• Develop and promote the Supplier Code of Conduct globally.

· Join the Carbon Disclosure Initiative initiated by the Institutional Investor Coalition to encourage companies and companies to release more environmental monitoring information.

The report also introduced Cummins's efforts for sustainable development in China in a large space. Adhering to the concept of “Clean Power Service China”, Cummins actively cooperates with the customers of China OEMs and constantly brings the most advanced low-emission and environmental protection power products to China and Europe and the international market. Following the simultaneous introduction of Euro III diesel products into the Chinese market, Cummins' joint venture in China, Dongfeng Cummins, has begun local production of Euro III engines. The Cummins engine products that meet Euro IV and Tier 3 emissions regulations have also been introduced into the Chinese market. After the first cogeneration system was put into use at the Jinqiao Sports Center in Shanghai in early 2005, Cummins Power's highly efficient clean energy systems were successively promoted in Beijing, Wuxi and Chengdu.

Cummins is committed to introducing a full range of products into China to achieve localized production. In October 2005, when Cummins’ board of directors visited China, they announced that they would invest 300 million U.S. dollars in China, striving to achieve Cummins' business volume in China by 3 billion U.S. dollars by 2010. These include the 11-liter heavy-duty engine plant jointly established with Shaanxi Auto and a new-generation 13-liter engine project jointly developed with DFG. This is Cummins' first heavy-duty engine platform developed outside the United States for the local and global markets; and The two light engine products developed on the international platform will be put into production in China for the first time in a light engine plant jointly established with Beiqi Foton.

While introducing advanced environmental protection powers, Cummins Inc. and its employees have also been committed to carrying out widespread public welfare activities in various parts of China to repay the community and improve the local community, starting with three aspects: education support, helping the poor and protecting the environment, and taking more action to take up more Social responsibility. In 2006 alone, Cummins (including joint ventures) spent more than one million yuan on public welfare projects in China.

The integration of sustainable development and business has now become a boom. The release of sustainability reports by enterprises has become a new trend. In recent years, multinational corporations in Western countries have started to issue corporate sustainability reports. Starting from the three perspectives of economic, environmental, and social performance (also known as the "triple bottom line"), they not only demonstrate the company's actions and achievements in sustainable development, but also Contributions are also a concrete reflection of corporate social responsibility and participation in social development, and have become a new tool for corporate management and performance assessment. The issuance of sustainability reports is an important measure for transnational corporations to strengthen their corporate responsibilities. Through the disclosure of the company's development status and values, it increases the confidence of the public and investors in the company and is recognized by the society and the public.
