Recently, Kongsberg Maritime obtained the type approval (WheelMark certification) of the MGC R3 MGC R3 gyrocompass by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The gyrocompass is ideally suited for the range of navigation and ship control systems offered by Kongsberg Maritime.
It is reported that the MGC R3 Gyro Compass integrates the Motion Reference Unit (MRU) platform with high-end gyrocompass that has been withdrawn from Kongsberg Maritime, and will provide a reliable and accurate solution for any navigation. It can be used as a gyrocompass or as a gyrocompass for a full inertial navigation system to provide heading, roll, pitch, heave and position data. This data will be sent over Ethernet and serial lines to ensure efficient distribution to multiple users on board.
