Toyo Ink Universal Pigments Transferred to China to Optimize Operational Benefits of Machine Pigment Production Base

According to recent reports, Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co. is actively working on enhancing the operational efficiency of its organic pigment production facilities across Japan, Europe, and China. As part of this strategy, the company's Fuji plant in Japan will focus on manufacturing high-end organic pigments tailored for the local market, while shifting lower-grade, general-purpose products to its production sites in China. Toyo Ink has established two key production bases in China—Tianjin and Zhuhai—with a combined annual capacity of around 7,000 to 8,000 tons. The Tianjin facility primarily produces pigments that are used in conjunction with printing inks, with limited export activity. In contrast, the Zhuhai base specializes in exporting its products to international markets. At the Chinese facilities, Toyo focuses on producing cost-effective general-purpose pigments such as azo and phthalocyanine types. This restructuring aims to strengthen the company’s presence in the global market by leveraging China’s competitive production costs. With increasing competition from low-cost Asian suppliers, the European market is expected to become more challenging. In response, Toyo Ink plans to discontinue the production of low-margin general-purpose pigments at its French site. Instead, it intends to boost the share of high-value, premium pigments in the region—from the current 20% to over 50%. This shift reflects the company’s broader strategy to focus on higher-margin products and maintain a strong foothold in developed markets. By optimizing its global production network, Toyo Ink is positioning itself to better meet regional demand while improving overall profitability and competitiveness.
