Zibo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is currently building a project with an annual production capacity of 100,000 light trucks. The project has been designated as the Zibo Automobile Manufacturing Base under the Shandong and Zibo Automobile Industry Development Plans. It is a key city project with a total investment of 420 million yuan. The facility focuses on the research, development, and production of light vehicles, including light trucks, pickup trucks, and SUVs. So far, the first phase of the project has been completed and is now in operation.
Inside the company, there's a special workshop known as the "Iron General" door. On July 6th, a reporter stood in front of the painting shop, waiting for someone to open the door, filled with curiosity. After a few minutes, the lock was opened, revealing a narrow passage lined with bottle-shaped metal objects. As the reporter was about to ask what they were, a strong gust of air blew through, saying, “Blow off the dust on your body.â€
After about a minute, the wind stopped, and the access door automatically opened. Inside the massive workshop, the vehicle cabs were slowly moving along a chain conveyor, with only a few workers actively working. “There aren’t many people in this large workshop,†said Sun Jiwu, the logistics manager. “Everything is automated.â€
“We have invested over one billion yuan in this production line, reaching a domestic advanced level,†said Vice President Qin, his pride evident. “China National Heavy Duty Truck Group has just signed an agreement with us.†He explained that recently, Shouqi had evaluated many companies in Shandong to find partners with higher-level pre-processing technology. Eventually, Zibo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was chosen. “This heavy truck business will be handed over to us,†he added with a smile. It turns out that even a company focused on vehicle assembly requires high-tech processes, which is the core of its competitive edge. The reporter realized why distant pictures could be taken in the vast workshop, but no close-up details were allowed.
Firms without high-tech support are vulnerable. In Zichuan, like the auto plant, few companies rely on technology to win the market. Currently, there are 21 high-tech enterprises above the provincial level in the region. A person in charge of the Suichuan Economic Development Zone mentioned that many high-tech projects have been launched, such as the Ziboshan Aodai Electric Industrial Park, the Nucleotide Project by Shandong Shuangfeng Co., Ltd., and the New Materials Industrial Park. Industry is the lifeblood and pillar of Zichuan’s economy. A new industrial trend is emerging: entrepreneurs have issued a document called “Shang Fang Bao Jian†– “Opinions on Strengthening Independent Innovation and Building Innovative Types of Jingchuan.â€
On June 7th, the Shandong Provincial County Economic Conference was held, and Zichuan District was praised by the provincial party committee and government. However, Secretary Wang Chuan of the Zichuan District Party Committee did not relax. He stated, “In recent years, we have clearly felt the gap with advanced regions is widening. Others are advancing quickly in industry, while we are lagging behind. Only six companies in our district are listed, and most rank below 40. There are only 13 companies in the city's double-hundred projects, which doesn't match the status of Sui Chuan. Focusing on energy, breaking through industry, and accelerating development is extremely urgent.â€
