The Calumet Park Fire Department was called to a structure on the 12400 block of South Honore around 7:20 PM on Monday, July 21st, 2014. The first engine and ladder company arrived within two minutes of the call, showing excellent response time. Upon arrival, firefighters found the residents outside and heavy smoke coming from the front door. They quickly entered the home and located the fire in a back bedroom. Within three minutes of their arrival, the fire was under control and contained. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other rooms or the attic. Additional units from Posen, Midlothian, Merrionette Park, and Riverdale were dispatched as auto-aid.
Eric Haak captured several powerful images of the incident, showcasing the firefighters' quick action and dedication. These photos give a real sense of the intensity and urgency of the situation. From firefighters entering the house with thick smoke billowing out, to flames bursting from a window, the images highlight the danger and skill involved in such emergencies. Water hitting the fire created dramatic smoke clouds, while firefighters used tools like axes and saws to make safe entries. One firefighter could be seen climbing a ladder, while another worked on the roof. A HME fire truck was also seen on the scene, ready to assist in the rescue efforts.
