Comprehensive Analysis of Wheat Canopy with Carbon Dioxide Detector

Under relatively stable atmospheric conditions, the change in CO2 concentration in farmland is a significant diurnal variation with the status of crops and solar radiation produced at different stages of development. In addition, CO2 detectors can cause small-scale fluctuations in carbon dioxide concentration between plants due to the change of source and sink of carbon dioxide between soil and crops, aerodynamic and thermal effects within the wheat field canopy.

A comprehensive CO2 detector analysis of the daily change curve shows that the highest value of the CO2 concentration at each level of the sunny day appears at 0-5 at night, and the lowest value appears at about 14-15 at noon during the day when the radiation is strong and the temperature is high. The size of the poor day's concentration depends on the size of the crop's population and wind speed, and decreases with height. The maximum daily difference generally occurs within 40 cm of the ground in the wheat canopy. During the daytime from 08 to 18 hours, the curve of carbon dioxide concentration changes more smoothly.

The bottom layer is within about 10cm from the surface. Because of the high concentration of carbon dioxide in the respiration of the soil and plant leaves, the average drop value during the day is about 44.6μL/L; the other layer of the CO2 detector is about 1/2 the height of the natural plant. During the day when the canopy had the lowest CO2 concentration, the average drop was 34.3 μL/L. The fluctuation of CO2 concentration at the top of crop canopy and the atmosphere was greater, and the CO2 detector analyzed the daily average day-to-day difference of 25.3 μL/L.

The above-mentioned characteristics of carbon dioxide distribution in the wheat canopy are mainly due to the large amount of carbon dioxide consumed during photosynthesis during daytime crops, which leads to a continuous decrease in the canopy concentration. The degree of reduction depends mainly on the intensity of solar irradiation. Carbon dioxide detectors found that under the influence of wind speed and turbulent transport in the boundary layer between the atmosphere and vegetation, the degree of reduction of carbon dioxide in the canopy was relatively slowed down, while the wind speed inside the wheat population was very small.
