The reporter learned from the Zhejiang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that a wide range of automotive components, including vehicle lamps, rearview mirrors, horns, fuel tanks, and door locks, will soon be subject to mandatory product certification. Starting December 1, 2006, all parts listed in the Catalogue of Compulsory Product Certifications must have a valid compulsory product certification certificate and bear the Chinese mandatory product certification mark before they can be manufactured, sold, imported, or used in any commercial activities.
It has come to light that although the official implementation date is only five months away, many auto parts companies in the province are moving at a slow pace when it comes to applying for 3C certification. Some firms are considering submitting their applications just before the deadline, which could lead to a significant backlog in the final stages of certification. If any issues arise during the process, it may disrupt the normal operations of these companies and potentially impact the entire automotive supply chain in the region.
Industry experts warn that the delay in preparation could create serious challenges for businesses, especially those heavily reliant on exports or domestic distribution. The certification process involves extensive documentation, testing, and compliance checks, which require time and careful planning. Companies that fail to meet the deadline risk being excluded from the market, leading to financial losses and operational setbacks.
With the clock ticking down, local authorities are urging manufacturers to act promptly and seek assistance from certification bodies to ensure smooth compliance. As the deadline approaches, the pressure on both companies and regulatory agencies is expected to increase significantly.
