On January 4, 2018, a three-alarm fire broke out at 2865 Sheridan Place in Evanston. Larry Shapiro captured powerful video and photo documentation of the incident. The scene involved numerous emergency units, including all Evanston fire engines and both ladder trucks, along with Squad 21, two ambulances, the chief, deputy, battalion chief, and off-duty chiefs. Additional support came from neighboring departments such as Wilmette Engine 2600 and Tower 26, Winnetka Engine 28, Northfield Engine 29, Park Ridge Engine 36, Niles Engine 2, Morton Grove Squad 4, Skokie Battalion and Tower 16, Des Plaines Tower 61, and Glenview Engine 13.
The footage and images show heavy smoke and flames engulfing the structure, firefighters working on the roof, and the use of a Pierce tractor-drawn aerial ladder. Several photos highlight the intensity of the fire, with firefighters using axes, moving large diameter hose (LDH), and operating master streams. One image captures Evanston FD Shift Commander Bill Muno at the scene, while others showcase the teamwork and dedication of the responding crews.
