This message is from Michael Douglass, Lieutenant and Public Education & Information Officer with the Cary Fire Protection District.
I’m excited to share some photos of our brand-new tender that will be featured on the Chicago Area Fire website. This unit, designated Tender 270, is stationed at Station #2 and represents a major upgrade in our fleet. It’s built on a Kenworth T370 chassis and features a 3,000-gallon water tank along with a 500-gallon-per-minute pump. One of the standout features is the rear-facing camera system, which helps the driver monitor what's behind the vehicle for improved safety and maneuverability.
We’ve also incorporated a single 3,000-gallon port-a-tank, which allows us to quickly empty the entire tank without having to set up and connect multiple tanks as we did before. This new configuration not only saves time but also improves efficiency during emergency responses.
The tender has a redesigned supply hose layout, and the pump panel is now located behind a roll-up door inside the body. This change helped reduce the overall length of the vehicle by about four feet compared to our previous model. The new Tender 270 was delivered in mid-August and officially went into service on August 30th.
