This report comes from Jeff Rudolph:
November 18, 2020 – Beach Park, IL
A homeowner was burning leaves when strong winds blew the embers onto the deck and up against the vinyl siding of their home. When the first responding fire crews arrived, they found a significant fire on the exterior of the house, which had already spread inside and into a detached garage. The incident was escalated to a working fire, then upgraded to a Box Alarm. Firefighters were unable to make a safe interior attack due to the rapid spread of the flames. Fortunately, two dogs were reported inside the home but managed to escape unharmed.

The fire caused extensive damage, with the home and garage completely destroyed. Local firefighters worked tirelessly for several hours to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties. Residents in the area were advised to stay alert and keep windows closed during the incident. Emergency services are still investigating the cause of the fire, but early reports suggest that the leaf burning was the initial source. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of open burning, especially during dry and windy conditions. Always ensure proper safety measures are in place when dealing with outdoor fires.
