According to a recent survey conducted by the Plant Protection Station in Hangzhou, two major moth flight peaks were recorded on July 6 and July 9, with the number of moths observed being higher than in previous years during the same period. The increased occurrence of *Spodoptera litura* is closely linked to the prolonged high temperatures experienced in the city this summer. Based on their analysis, the Plant Protection Station predicts that the moth population will enter its main damage phase in late July, and the impact is expected to last for an extended period. This makes early intervention crucial to prevent widespread crop losses. Due to its rapid proliferation, sudden outbreaks, broad diet range, and growing resistance to pesticides, controlling *Spodoptera litura* presents a significant challenge. Experts recommend focusing on adult behavior for prevention and control. Measures such as using insecticidal lamps and sex pheromone traps can effectively reduce adult populations, thereby decreasing egg laying in the fields. Farmers are also advised to manually remove egg masses and damaged leaves where larvae are clustered. For chemical control, several effective options are available, including a 15% suspension concentrate diluted 3000 times, Aolu No. 2000 solution, and a 10% emulsifiable concentrate diluted 1500 times. These should be applied according to recommended guidelines for optimal results. However, it's important to note that the timing of pesticide application plays a key role in effectiveness. Since *Spodoptera litura* larvae are most active in the evening, spraying should be carried out during this time for maximum impact. Additionally, it is strongly advised to use high-efficiency, low-toxicity, and low-residue pesticides. To prevent the development of pesticide resistance, farmers should alternate between different types of pesticides and apply them rationally. This approach not only enhances control but also helps maintain the long-term sustainability of pest management practices.
