From Josh Boyajian:
I just got back from responding to a working fire over the weekend in the 6th Battalion area. The address was 5640 South Peoria, and it was a two-story vacant building. When we arrived, the back porches were already fully engulfed in flames. It was a challenging situation, but our team worked efficiently to contain the fire before it spread further.

The intensity of the fire required multiple units to get the situation under control. You can see one of our trucks arriving with full gear, ready to tackle the blaze head-on. It's always a team effort during these situations, and everyone knows their role.

As you can imagine, getting ladders up quickly is crucial when dealing with fires in multi-story buildings. Our firefighters were swift in deploying ground ladders to reach the windows of the affected building, ensuring no one was left inside.

Once the flames were mostly under control, the focus shifted to overhaul and checking for any remaining hotspots. This phase is critical because even if the main fire is out, small embers could reignite the danger.

Our Engine 50 played a vital role in this stage, providing the necessary water pressure to ensure every corner of the building was safe from rekindling.

After hours of hard work, the streets began to clear, and the community started to return to normalcy. Firefighters continued their efforts to wash down any lingering hotspots to prevent further issues.

It’s moments like these that remind me how resilient both the firefighters and the community are. Even though the scene was chaotic at first, the teamwork and dedication made all the difference.
The intersection where the fire happened also had its own charm, with street signs standing tall despite the chaos around them.

And of course, no firefighting operation would be complete without seeing our Squad 5A and Squad 5 units on standby, ready to assist at a moment’s notice.

Finally, as the day came to an end, Truck 51 was still there, ensuring everything was secure and safe for the neighborhood.

Every fire is a reminder of the importance of preparedness and vigilance. While I’m grateful for the opportunity to share these moments, I hope this serves as a reminder of the incredible work done by our firefighters every single day.
