Vacuum drying involves using a vacuum pump to reduce pressure inside the pipeline, causing moisture on the inner walls to evaporate. This method is particularly effective in removing free water and is gaining traction in China due to its efficiency and long-term benefits. Dry air drying is widely used in China and comes in two forms: direct purging with dry air and the use of foam pigs. While the former is suitable for all pipe diameters, the latter is more efficient, especially for large-diameter pipelines. Dry air has a low dew point, allowing it to absorb moisture and push it out of the pipeline. However, complete removal of moist air is difficult, making this method less effective than others in certain cases. The dry air ball method uses foam pigs to isolate wet air and facilitate replacement with dry air, making it ideal for long-distance pipelines. It is the primary technique used in the West-East Gas Pipeline project. In recent years, vacuum drying technology has started to gain popularity in China. Operators and supervisors have noted its advantages over traditional dry air methods, including better dew point control and longer-lasting results. As the industry evolves, this technology is expected to become more widespread in future pipeline projects. Pipeline drying is a growing field with significant market potential.
