Jingmen Petrochemical Increases Refining Sulfur Recovery to Achieve Win-win Results in Economic and Social Benefits

Sinopec Jingmen Branch has recently launched a clean energy and energy-saving project: a sulfuric acid plant with an annual output of 50,000 tons. This initiative significantly improves the conversion rate of sulfur in oil refining waste to 99.6%, effectively addressing the environmental issues caused by acid gases. The project not only reduces pollution but also brings substantial economic and social benefits, achieving a win-win situation. Previously, Jingmen Petrochemical used sulfur to treat acid gas, with a designed annual production capacity of 6,500 tons of sulfur. However, the actual output exceeded this, reaching 7,434 tons annually. Despite this, a significant amount of acid gas was still released through the chimney, leading to resource wastage and environmental pollution. To turn waste gas into economic value while improving environmental quality, Jingmen Petrochemical invested 30 million yuan to build a new sulfuric acid plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons. This facility uses acid gas as its primary raw material. After incineration, purification, washing, and drying, the sulfur is converted into sulfuric acid through a two-stage absorption process, achieving a total absorption rate of up to 99.99%. This advanced technology ensures maximum resource utilization and minimal environmental impact, setting a new standard for sustainable industrial practices.
