This message is from Eric Haak:
I wanted to share some photos of the Hubbard Street fire that I’ve come across. While many images of this tragic event are well known, I believe these might not be as widely seen. The first photo shows the front of the building before it collapsed. I think it was taken facing north from under the railroad bridge. The second image captures Snorkel 1 positioned in the alley. Photos three and four depict the ruins, and I believe they were taken from the south side, looking from the Grand Avenue bridge.
One interesting detail is the fifth image, which is a close-up of photo three. It shows an Ahrens-Fox engine supplying the high-pressure rig. If I got any of the details wrong, I’d love to hear from you—I’ve always been curious about where these photos were taken and who captured them. I own the original negatives for all four images, but I don’t know the identity of the original photographer. These pictures have been part of my collection for years, and I hope sharing them helps others learn more about this significant event in Chicago’s history.

GHJ high shear mixer consists of a vertical mixing barrel, bottom placed agitating impeller and side
installed choppers. When powders or slurry materials are fed into the mixing barrel, the specially designed rotating impeller pushes the material onto the inner barrel wall. Under the effect of centrifugal force, the material moves up alongside the barrel wall to form a swirl flow. At the same time, the side installed high-speed chopper completely shear and chop the materials to get uniform mixing.
