A few months back, we added the Naperville Fire Department to our site, featuring photos taken by several photographers who visited different stations to capture their new equipment and updated company placements. Although some rigs had been relocated or reassigned since the last round of photos about a year ago, thanks to the assistance of Naperville Lieutenant Andy Hilk, we managed to update everything accordingly for the post.
Recently, we heard that the Naperville FD wasn’t quite finished with its reorganization plans, and more changes were on the horizon. Bill Friedrich then shared detailed information about these recent reassignments across various stations. Here’s what we learned:
- **Medic 9** is currently out of service.
- **Medic 1** is now operating using the 2007 IHC/Medtec unit that was previously assigned to Medic 9.
- **Squad 1 (1997 E-ONE)** has returned to **Station 8**, and it’s been renumbered as **Squad 8**—once again!
- The **2008 Crimson rig** initially assigned to **Engine 8** is now stationed at **Station 1** and is now known as **Engine 1**.
- The **2009 Crimson quint** previously assigned to **Truck 10** is now serving as **Truck 5**.
- The **2005 E-ONE tower ladder**, which was originally **Truck 5**, has become a spare vehicle.
- The older **1994 E-ONE tower ladder**, lacking a pump and previously kept in reserve, has been fully decommissioned and will probably be sold off soon.
- **Engine 10** is now utilizing a **2005 E-ONE Typhoon**.
- Meanwhile, the TRT trailer is relocating to **Station 10**.
I’ve also included some images for context. The first photo shows **Squad 8** when it was initially moved to **Station 1**, just before it was renumbered. The second image captures **Engine 1** during its assignment to **Station 1**, taken before we had an actual photo of it labeled as **Engine 8**.
It’s always fascinating to see how fire departments adapt and evolve over time. These changes reflect the ongoing efforts to optimize resources and ensure maximum efficiency. Stay tuned for further updates as more developments unfold!
