New area Pierce aerials

As I previously mentioned in earlier posts (you can check them out [here](#) and [here](#)), both the Homewood Fire Department and the Hillside Fire Department recently acquired brand-new rear-mount aerial trucks from Pierce. A big thanks goes out to Ryan Wyckoff for sharing some fantastic photos he took during his visit to the Pierce manufacturing facility last month. Just this week, Pierce has uploaded an extensive gallery of images, including these two, onto their official Flickr page. Let’s start with Homewood’s latest addition, the 2011 Pierce Arrow XT with a 105-foot rear-mount quint. This impressive piece of firefighting equipment will undoubtedly be a game-changer for their operations. The crisp lines and modern design of the Arrow XT are immediately noticeable, and it’s clear that this vehicle is built for both power and precision. Pierce did an excellent job capturing its sleek appearance in their official photograph. Switching gears over to Hillside, they’ve also joined the elite club of departments equipped with state-of-the-art fire apparatus. Their new Truck 403 is a 2011 Pierce Velocity XT with a similar 105-foot rear-mount quint configuration. While the Arrow XT exudes a certain classic elegance, the Velocity XT feels more futuristic, showcasing a bold and aggressive stance. Hillside’s choice of color scheme—deep red with silver accents—really makes this truck pop visually. Both departments should feel incredibly proud to have such advanced vehicles at their disposal. These rear-mount aerials represent not only cutting-edge technology but also a significant investment in safety and efficiency for their communities. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out the full image galleries on the Pierce Flickr page. They’ve done a fantastic job providing detailed shots of every angle of these trucks, allowing us all to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into building such remarkable machines. In my opinion, it’s exciting to see how far firefighting equipment has come in recent years. From enhanced safety features to improved maneuverability, these trucks are designed to handle even the most challenging situations with confidence. Whether it’s Homewood’s Arrow XT or Hillside’s Velocity XT, each truck reflects the unique needs and priorities of its respective department while maintaining the highest standards of quality and performance. Overall, it’s heartening to witness departments like Homewood and Hillside investing in top-tier resources for their firefighters. These new rear-mount aerials will no doubt play a critical role in protecting lives and property for years to come. Kudos to both departments for making such a forward-thinking decision!

100% Bio-based Polyhydroxyalkanoates PHA Marine Degradation Polymer

The biocompatibility and biodegradability of PHA enable it to be used as implant materials, including tissue engineering materials and drug-controlled release vectors. This characteristic can also be used in agriculture to wrap fertilizer or pesticide carriers, so that the wrapped substance is slowly released in the process of slow degradation of PHA, so as to maintain long-term fertilizer or drug efficacy, while reducing the amount of medicine, extending the action time, and protecting the long-term plantability of cultivated land. The monomers that make up PHA are chiral, and they are intermediates in the chemical synthesis of many drugs and have high value-added applications. Many different chiral monomers can be obtained by synthesis and degradation of PHA in vivo.
With the further development of strain screening methods, more and more strains that can synthesize new PHA have been discovered, so new PHA materials have been synthesized. However, at present, the technological improvement of microbial synthesis of PHA is far behind the development of new PHA materials.
Biomaterials occupy a very important position in tissue engineering, and tissue engineering also raises questions and points out the development direction of biomaterials. Since traditional artificial organs (such as artificial kidney and liver) do not have biological functions (metabolism, synthesis), and can only be used as auxiliary therapeutic devices, the research on tissue engineered artificial organs with biological functions has attracted wide attention around the world. Three elements are needed to build a tissue-engineered artificial organ, namely "seed" cells, scaffold materials, and cell growth factors. Recently, the use of stem cells as seed cells to construct artificial organs has become a hot topic due to their ability to differentiate. Tissue engineering has made some breakthrough achievements in artificial skin, artificial cartilage, artificial nerve, artificial liver and so on, showing a good application prospect.
The combination of biotechnology and chemical synthesis methods can obtain some new materials that can not be obtained by chemical or biological methods alone or that are too expensive to manufacture by chemical synthesis, especially some materials with special properties, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, optical activity, piezoelectricity, electrical conductivity and high stability of materials. The research and development of these new materials requires the cooperation of experts in the fields of materials, polymers, chemistry, medicine, electronics, physics, microbiology, molecular biology, fermentation engineering and chemical engineering, and even the participation of industry in order to produce results and get new materials with real market application prospects.
