Anthony Rose, a brave member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who lost his life on June 30 during the Yarnell Fire, was finally brought home on Wednesday evening. His return to Waukegan was marked by a heartfelt and respectful ceremony that honored his sacrifice and service.
The ashes of Anthony Rose arrived at the Waukegan Regional Airport aboard a plane, accompanied by a fellow firefighter from the Granite Mountain Hotshots, two U.S. Forest Service officers, and members of the Phoenix Fire Department honor guard. The arrival was a solemn moment, filled with emotion and respect for the fallen hero.
A large crowd gathered for the ceremony, including hundreds of local firefighters, members of the Axemen Motorcycle Club, local police, and many citizens. During the event, Anthony’s family received his ashes along with an American flag that had been used in a memorial service held in Phoenix. The gesture added a powerful sense of closure and remembrance for the grieving family.
Following the ceremony, a procession of police cars, fire trucks, and motorcycles escorted a limousine carrying Anthony’s family to a funeral home in nearby Zion. The community came together to pay their respects, showing deep admiration for the bravery and dedication of the young firefighter.
